About the House

Mario Garcia-Palmieri

Dr. Garcia-Palmieri, a 1951 graduate of the School of Medicine, was a cardiologist and the first Hispanic to receive the distinguished title of “Master” by the American College of Cardiology.

After medical school, he returned to his native Puerto Rico and became the first cardiologist trained in Puerto Rico. He later served as Chair of Internal Medicine and Director of Cardiology at the School of Medicine of the University of Puerto Rico. He also became Secretary of Health for Puerto Rico.
