Fertig, PhD, FAIMBE, leads our team of 33 faculty members and seven affiliate faculty, whose research ranges from basic evolutionary science and computational biology to human health across the lifespan.

Institute for Health Computing (IHC)

UM-IHC is the hub for health computing innovation and collaboration in Montgomery County. UM-IHC merges the computational expertise, clinical expertise, biomedical innovation, health data and academic resources of the University of Maryland, College Park; the University of Maryland, Baltimore; and the University of Maryland Medical System to innovate health care delivery and support the Montgomery County life science community.

Institute of Human Virology (IHV)

The IHV is the first center in the United States - perhaps the world - to combine the disciplines of basic science, epidemiology and clinical research in a concerted effort to speed the discovery of diagnostics and therapeutics for a wide variety of chronic and deadly viral and immune disorders - most notably HIV, the cause of AIDS.

UM-MIND aims to accelerate translational research of the brain by facilitating interaction between basic and clinical scientists and enhancing collaborative research across the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM), the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) and local and regional partners.

The Kahlert Institute for Addiction Medicine is dedicated to improving the lives of Marylanders living with and affected by addiction. To confront this generational challenge, the Kahlert Institute for Addiction Medicine seeks to transform addiction research, prevention, treatment and education across Maryland, successfully integrating groups across many disciplines to create the necessary synergy for systemic change.

Institute for Clinical & Translational Research (ICTR)

ICTR is a universitywide initiative that provides resources to faculty, predoctoral students, and postdoctoral fellows to support clinical translational science. The goal of the ICTR is to provide access to the portfolio of exceptional quality, shared resources available across our campus, as well as ICTR pilot grant funding and ICTR clinical & translational research training and faculty career development opportunities.
