The Office of Education
The Education Office is responsible for overseeing the Internal Medicine Residency Programs at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC).
The Department of Medicine started the first in-hospital residency training program in the United States in 1823. Back then there were only two residents in the program, but today more than 140 physicians are pursuing their residencies here.
A complete listing of the residency programs is available by visiting Residency Programs at UMMC.
The Department of Medicine collaborates closely with other divisions within the School of Medicine and with our affiliated clinical facilities to give our students many opportunities to cater their medical studies to their skills and interests.
The following are specialized study areas in which Department of Medicine faculty and students have participated:
- MD/PhD Program
- Graduate Program in Life Sciences
- Training Program in Vascular and Cell Biology
- MD/MS in Preventive Medicine or MPH in Public Health
