RECRUITING FOR DIVISION DIRECTOR
Under new leadership, the University of Maryland School of Medicine has expanded its program in aging and population health within the Division of Gerontology of the School’s Department of Epidemiology and Public Health (EPH). The division is home to faculty with strong commitment to research at a variety of career stages, who are skilled in transdisciplinary research in aging, epidemiology, population health, and related areas. The division is seeking new leadership in the position of Division Director. Generous and competitive salary and start-up package commensurate with career stage and experience will be provided.
The Department of Epidemiology and Public Health is home to strong and innovative research programs in gerontology, cancer epidemiology, genomic and infectious disease epidemiology, translational toxicology, biostatistics and bioinformatics, preventive medicine, and health disparities and population health.
The Division of Gerontology hosts multidisciplinary research projects that span topics such as hip fracture recovery, cognitive functioning, Parkinson’s Disease, HIV and aging, women’s health, chronic care and disease management, trauma and emergency care, and methods for studying older persons. Collaboration with other faculty in the department, across the School of Medicine and UM Campuses, and the VA is encouraged. Within the division there is ample opportunity to teach, train, and mentor the next generation of scientists (pre- and post-doctoral) across the fields of epidemiology, gerontology, and health care policy, medical students, and students in other professional schools. The division also is home to a National Institute on Aging Training Grant in the Epidemiology of Aging.

- Recognized leader with a passion for transdisciplinary research, collaborative teamwork, and community-based participation in the epidemiological study of aging and gerontology
- Research scientists who are leading and/or collaborating on funded projects, and who are on a path to advancing research in aging with new funding; and
- Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
Ideal candidates:
- Envision the development of a vibrant and independent research program;
- Possess innovative and creative ideas to approaching the future of research on aging.
Qualifications:
Ph.D. and/or M.D. (or equivalent doctoral degree) with experience collaborating in an interdisciplinary research setting, background in epidemiology, population health, and/or gerontology or related area. A record of extramural research funding is required. Due to the diverse nature of the work of the department, we welcome those with nontraditional career pathways to apply.

Epidemiology of Aging Training Program
Applications invited for Post-Doctoral Fellowships
The objective of this advanced training program (Dr. Jay Magaziner, Program Director) is to train pre- and postdoctoral fellows to conduct independent and original research in the epidemiology of aging, with an emphasis on the prevention of late-life disability and functional decline. The program emphasizes four broad areas: Musculoskeletal disorders, Neuroepidemiology, Genetic epidemiology, and Pharmacoepidemiology.
