Q: What will I be expected to do for the study?

A: This depends on the study but in general the studies conducted by CAIR involve imaging, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). MRI is a safe procedure that uses a scanner with magnets to capture images of the inside of the body. It does not use radiation and is not invasive. All procedures will be explained to you before you start the study.

A few other studies may use positron emission tomography (PET), which involves injection of a small & safe amount of radioactive dye.

Q: Will I be paid?

A: This also depends on the study but compensation for our current studies ranges from $25 to over $300 per visit. Payment is made in cash or gift cards to retail stores such as Target and WalMart.

Q: Is it safe?

A: Yes. All studies have been reviewed and approved by our institutional review board (IRB) and conform to standards for conducting research on humans. Any risks involved will be described to you before your participation.

Q: What do the researchers hope to accomplish?

A: This very much depends on the study. In general terms, we are using advanced imaging technologies to understand the structure, function, or chemistry of the human body in healthy individuals or those with medical conditions.
