EPIC Access

The Office of Student Research provides EPIC Portfolio Medical Student access for first and second-year medical students who are on clinical rotation or are in need of Epic Access for research with UMSOM Faculty PIs. These students are also required to complete Portfolio Epic Medical Student Training. Two accounts (Epic Portfolio Medical Student Account and Portfolio Epic Medical Student Training Account) will be created for the student when their request is approved by a UMSOM faculty preceptor.

Please note: Medical students in their third or fourth-year should request EPIC Portfolio access from the Office of Student Affairs (StudentAffairs@som.umaryland.edu).

Requesting Access For An Epic Portfolio Medical Student Account

Step 1: You, the student, should first complete the OSR EPIC Access Request Form. Please provide your UMSOM Faculty mentor’s name department and best email address, not a resident or coordinator.

(Your faculty mentor will automatically receive a request to complete the Approval Form. This approval is needed before you can receive Epic Access.)

Step 2: Once you have been notified about the creation of your portfolio training account along with the credentials, you should complete the training within 15 days.

Step 3: You would then submit your certificate of completion to the Office of Student Research at studentresearch@som.umaryland.edu.

Step 4: When your EPIC access request has been submitted by OSR, if this is your first time receiving Epic access with UMSOM or UMMC, you will be required to complete the confidentiality agreement. You should expect an email from UMMS IST Service Desk

Step 5: When you receive your confidentiality agreement email, be sure to complete the confidentiality agreement(s).

Step 6: After receiving your new account request information for Epic Portfolio and/or My Remote from IST Cherwell Support, be sure to log in within 24 hours of receiving your EPIC username and temporary password.

Step 7: For assistance with setting up and logging on to your my remote access you can contact the UMM Helpdesk at helpdesk@umm.edu or (410) 328-4357.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact the Office of Student Research at studentresearch@som.umaryland.edu.
