10.9 Student Assignment

Scope and Purpose

This policy covers all courses and clerkships where medical student education occurs at a clinical site.

Policy Statement

Students will be assigned to clinical sites by the course/clerkship director. Students are expected to arrange their own transportation to off-campus sites.

Where applicable, course/clerkship leadership will send surveys to students no less than four weeks in advance of the start of the rotation. Students must be notified of clinical site assignments no less than two weeks prior to the start of the rotation.

Any request for an alternate site assignment must be made in writing to the course/clerkship leadership no later than one week prior to the start of the rotation. Any two students wishing to switch their respective clinical site assignment within a given course/clerkship must submit a joint request to the course/clerkship leadership no later than one week prior to the start of the rotation. Course/clerkship directors will make final determinations and notify the student promptly.

In special circumstances, the Office of Student Affairs may require that a course/clerkship director assign a student to an alternate clinical site.
