How to Apply
The University of Maryland Anesthesiology Residency Program invites you to apply and welcomes the opportunity to train you to become an outstanding clinician and future leader in Anesthesiology. We are proud to offer a supportive environment with a diverse and medically challenging patient population.
The residency program abides by the rules of the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) for final selection of trainees. The University of Maryland Anesthesiology Program’s NRMP numbers are:

Application Requirements for the 2023 Match
Please include 100 words about why you would like to complete your training at the University of Maryland. You can either, add to the end of your Personal Statement or upload as your fourth Letter of Recommendation (LoR) in ERAS. Do not waive your right to read. If you have any questions about this requirement, please contact us at anesresfellcoor@som.umaryland.edu.
We strongly encourage all interested applicants to also complete the supplemental application including the program preference and geographic signaling capabilities. For the 2023 ERAS® cycle, our program will be collecting and reviewing data from applicants’ supplemental ERAS applications. Completion of the supplemental ERAS application is optional and there is no additional cost to applicants.
In its second year of use, the supplemental ERAS application is designed to help applicants share more information about themselves and assist our program in finding applicants who will thrive in our environment.
The supplemental ERAS application provides:
- geographic preferences
- information about an applicant’s most meaningful experiences and other impactful life events
- program signals

Interviews
The department is pleased to offer selected candidates virtual interviews. Conducting virtual interviews is recommended under the guidance of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). Interviews will be conducted from October to January. To maintain our commitment to equity, we will not conduct second look visits.
