Advertise for Student Participants

Recruitment of UMSOM Students as Research Participants in Medical Education Studies

Faculty members at the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) who wish to recruit medical students as research participants in educational studies may request advertising support through the Dean’s Office. To ensure ethical standards and student protections, all requests are reviewed individually by the appropriate academic committee(s).

Eligibility Requirements

  • The request must be submitted by a UMSOM faculty member serving as the Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-PI on the study.
  • The study must have active UMB Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval that explicitly includes student recruitment and outlines protections for students as a potentially vulnerable population.

Advertising Guidelines

  • Use of Dean’s Office listservs or direct outreach to student groups is prohibited without prior written approval.
  • All advertising requests are evaluated on a case-by-case basis to ensure compliance with institutional policies and student welfare standards.

Submission Instructions

  • Submit a request via our online form.
    • Complete a separate form for each study or proposal.
    • Only the PI or designated UMSOM faculty member may submit the request.
    • Incomplete submissions or those lacking IRB documentation will not be considered.

Review Process

  • Each submission will be reviewed by the Medical Education Advisory Committee (MEAC) to determine eligibility and ensure adequate protection of student participants.
  • Typically, requests with an approved IRB are reviewed by MEAC within 1-2 weeks.
