The University of Maryland Department of Obstetrics awarded and recertified by the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology (SOAP) as a SOAP Center of Excellence designation

Congratulations to the Obstetric Anesthesiology Division of the Department of Anesthesiology team for being recognized and recertified as a SOAP Center of Excellence designation. Bhavani Shankar Kodali, MBBS, MD, Professor and Chief of the Obstetric Anesthesiology Division credited how the Department "continues to strive and maintain high standards in Obstetric Anesthesiology care and a designate of SOAP Center of Excellence" for the recertification. The goal of the SOAP Centers of Excellence is to recognize institutions and programs that demonstrate excellent obstetric anesthesia care. This 4-year certificate recognizes institutions and programs that set a benchmark level of expected care to improve the standards nationally and to provide a broad surrogate quality metric of institutions providing obstetric anesthesia care.

This certification acknowledges and promotes excellence in the provision of safe and effective obstetric anesthesia care. All applicants were subject to a rigorous and transparent review process and it is a prestigious honor to be acknowledged by the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology, Center of Excellence.
