The Hearing and Balance Center audiologists are professionals with a Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) degree who have earned the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-A) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Each audiologist also has met licensure and credentialing standards to work in the state of Maryland and at the University of Maryland Medical Center.
Audiologists are trained to:
- Evaluate hearing and identify hearing loss
- Determine the need for hearing aids and assistive listening technology
- Select and fit hearing aids
- Counsel patients and their families about the effects of hearing loss on daily life
- Evaluate the balance system
- Provide rehabilitation for BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo)
- Refer to specialists (e.g. otolaryngologist) for medical or surgical management of hearing loss or balance problems when indicated
- Develop and implement hearing conservation programs
- Evaluate audiological cochlear implant candidacy
- Perform activation and follow-up programming and testing of cochlear implant patients

Dr. Angela T. Lataille joined the Division of Audiology at the University of Maryland Medical Center in 2016 as the Director of Audiology. She earned her Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) degree from the University of Florida. She completed her clinical externship at Johns Hopkins Division of Audiology in 2004. She continued on at Hopkins after her externship as a Faculty Audiologist until her move to UMMC in 2016. Dr. Lataille has over 16 years of experience providing care for patients of all ages and abilities in areas including diagnosis and monitoring of hearing loss, candidacy and fitting of hearing aids, cochlear implants, and osseo-integrated bone conduction devices. She has a special interest in cochlear implants, hearing aids, and osseo-integrated bone conduction devices in the adult population. She has her Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology.

Dr. Chelsea Carter joined the Division of Audiology at the University of Maryland Medical Center in 2016 as a Clinical Audiologist. She earned her Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) degree from the University of Maryland-College Park after completing her clinical externship at UMMC. Dr. Carter has a special interest in assessment and management of tinnitus and hyperacusis, as well as vestibular assessment. In addition to her specialties, she is experienced in the diagnosis of hearing and balance disorders for patients of all ages and fitting of hearing aids and osseo-integrated devices. She has her Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology.

Dr. Annie Ferruggiaro joined the Division of Audiology at the University of Maryland Medical Center in 2014 as a Clinical Audiologist. She earned her Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) degree from the University of Maryland-College Park. She completed her clinical residency at Georgetown University and gained experience in the field of Audiology at the Hearing and Balance Center at Yale University and at Kaiser Permanente before joining the team at UMMC. She has a wide range of clinical experience involving the diagnosis and treatment of hearing and balance disorders for patients of all ages, with special interests in cochlear implants, pediatric diagnostic evaluations and amplification, as well as electrophysiologic testing for infants and children. She has her Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology.

Dr. Lachelle Lazarus joined the Division of Audiology at the University of Maryland Medical Center in 2019 as a clinical audiologist. She earned her Doctor of Audiology (Au.D) degree at Nova Southeastern University, and completed her clinical externship at Yale University. She continued on at Yale after her externship as a Faculty Audiologist until she relocated to UMMC in 2019. Dr. Lazarus specializes in vestibular assessment as well as tinnitus and hyperacusis assessment and treatment. In addition to her specialties, she conducts diagnosis and monitoring of hearing loss, as well as candidacy and fitting of both hearing aids and osseo-integrated bone-conduction devices. She has her Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology.
