May 31, 2025

Two CARTI Research Training Track Alumni have recently been awarded internal and foundation grants

Spring 2023 alumnus Nikhil Pandey has been awarded his first two independent grants. A member of the Translational Therapeutics Research Group in the Department of Neurosurgery, Pandey’s research aims to develop safe and targeted approaches to cross the blood-brain barrier and effectively treat glioblastoma multiforme. He has been awarded an American Cancer Society Institutional Research Grant, as well as a grant from the Focused Ultrasound Foundation.

Spring 2024 alumna Jiachen “Chenny” Zhuo, with colleague and School of Nursing faculty member Ian Kleckner, has been awarded a Radiometry Pilot Project award from the Marlene & Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center. Their proposal “Studying the Role of the Brain’s Glymphatic System in Cancer Treatment Toxicities,” was recognized by the review committee for “exceptional merit.” Jiachen “Chenny” Zhuo and Joyce Teixeira Da Silva from the School of Dentistry won an ATIP Innovation Collaboration Pilot Grant from UMB ICTR for "Peak Alpha Frequency as a Biomarker of Persistent Post Traumatic Headache."

We look forward to some exciting findings from all these projects. Congratulations!
