Students who have fulfilled the Department’s prerequisite coursework transfer into the program at the onset of their junior year. Sixty credit hours of prerequisite coursework in the following areas are required for entrance to the program.
There are four active Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) programs in Maryland. If an articulation agreement exists between the MLT program and DMRT then students from those programs who have completed an A.A.S. degree as a MLT, have a minimum GPA of 3.0, and have passed the ASCP Board of Certification MLT examination will be able to waive certain DMRT courses.
All other students transferring to the Department of Medical and Research Technology (DMRT), University of Maryland from another regionally accredited college or university will have transcripts evaluated by the DMRT Office of Student Affairs during the admissions process. Students must request transcripts from all colleges or universities where they took courses.i International students must have their transcirpt evaluated by a service such as W.E.S. Credit will be awarded for at least 60 credits of transferable pre-requisite coursework for which a grade of C (2.0) or higher was earned.
Students are permitted to request a re-evaluation of transfer courses by consulting with a DMRT academic advisor. All courses transferred become a part of the student's UMB transcript. Transfer grades are not counted in the student's UMB GPA.
