Working out of the Office of Student Research, I am the Director of Student Research Education. In this role, I have been responsible for developing a new Medical School course called Foundations of Research and Critical Thinking (FRCT). I will serve as the Course Director for this course, which is designed to stimulate critical thinking and enhance intellectual acuity and inquisitiveness in our medical students. As part of this course, all medical students will be required to complete a mentored scholarly project. As the Director of Dual Degree Programs, I am responsible for developing, overseeing and directing all of the MD/MS programs in the School of Medicine. For the Functional Systems course, which is our “physiology” course for first-year medical students, I serve as the Course Director and the section head for the Cell Function section of the course. I have co-authored a textbook, “Cellular Physiology and Neurophysiology”, which is used in the teaching of Cell Function. In addition, I am the Course Director for GPILS 601 "Mechanisms in Biomedical Sciences " (aka, The Core Course), as well as the Co-Director of Pathophysiology and Therapeutics I/II.
