Education and Training

Dr. Ashutosh Sachdeva received his medical degree from University of Delhi. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Saint Louis University School of Medicine, in Saint Louis, Missouri. Upon completion of his fellowship in Pulmonary Diseases and Critical Care medicine at Saint Louis University School of Medicine he stayed on as faculty in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine for three years. He then spent a year at Virginia Commonwealth Health Sciences in Richmond, advancing his training in Interventional Pulmonology.

Biosketch

Dr. Sachdeva is currently the Director of Interventional Pulmonology Program at University of Maryland Medical Center, in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care. He holds the title of assistant professor of medicine at the University of School of Medicine. He has more than a decade of experience in management of patients with advanced lung disease and in the direction of clinical trials. He values the importance of collaboration and the need to cut across organizational silos for innovative research. The Interventional Pulmonology expertise available at UMMC draws referrals from across the entire Baltimore/Washington region.

Grants and Contracts

Clinical study:

Principal investigator on EMPROVE clinical trial of IBV valves in severe Emphysema/COPD. The study aims to evaluate the impact of lung volume reduction using one way-valves in the airways of single lobe of the lung and is actively recruiting patients. Early detection of lung cancer and evaluation of innovative and evolving technologies for ablation of peripheral lung tumors. Minimally invasive procedures for diagnosis and staging of lung cancer. Management of tracheal and airway stenosis with minimally invasive procedures for rapid relief and long-term management. Expertise with use of ablative modalities including cryotherapy, argon plasma coagulation, LASER, and electrocautery.

 

Co-Investigator, truFreeze® Spray Cryotherapy Patient Registry, a joint registry with Division of Gastroenterology at University of Maryland Medical Center. The purpose is to learn about effective and safety of spray cryotherapy in patients with malignant and non-malignant airway disease.  Bronchial thermoplasty for patients with severe Asthma. Dr. Sachdeva collaborates with Dr. Kathryn Robinett, expert in Asthma, in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care for selecting patients who would benefit from the procedure.
