Division of Psychiatric Services Research

Established in 1988, the Division of Psychiatric Services Research (DPSR) is devoted to research and translational activities focusing on mental health services, interventions, and policies. The DPSR conducts investigator-initiated services research projects involving economic evaluation; policy analysis; services and intervention development, implementation, training, and evaluation; and e-health application development and assessment. In collaboration with local, state, and federal governmental partners, the DPSR also conducts professional trainings, outcomes tracking, database and website development, and program evaluations.

The DPSR faculty consists of a diverse group of health services researchers from varying disciplines including psychiatry, psychology, economics, pharmacy, public health, and biostatistics.

The DPSR is home to two translational centers:

We work closely with our policy making and health care services delivery partners, especially the Maryland Behavioral Health Administration and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), as well as with a wide range of stake holders—services users and their families, clinicians and providers, state and federal policy makers as well as the general public.

We also have longstanding partnerships with the following research and academic organizations, among others:

  • The VA Capitol Health Care Network (VISN 5) Mental Illness Research, Education, and Clinical Center (MIRECC);
  • The Division of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry;
  • The Maryland Psychiatric Research Center;
  • The University of Maryland, Division of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry;
  • The University of Maryland, Division of Alcohol & Drug Abuse;
  • The University of Maryland, Division of Community Psychiatry;
