Education and Training

Dr. Zhou received his Bachelor Degree of Medicine (in Dental Medicine, BM) and Master Degree of Medicine (in Pharmacology, MM) from the Central South University Xiang-Ya School of Medicine in China. He then received his Dr. rer.nat. (in Cell Biology) from the University of Rostock, Germany. He was a post-doctoral fellow and research associate at the University of Tennessee.

Biosketch

Dr. Zhou combines state of the art of patch clamp electrophysiological, optogentical, chemogenetical, immunohistochemical, molecular biological, stereotaxic and behavioral analysis techniques, to investigate the neural function and behavior (HCN and TRP channel mediated excitability, chemical and electrical interconnection of local and centrifugal circuits, short-term plasticity and sensory and cognitive behaviors) in different brain regions (mainly olfactory bulb, cortex and basal ganglia) in healthy animals and animal models of human diseases (5xfamilial Alzheimer's disease, MPTP-Parkinson's disease and cortical dysplasia-epilepsy animal models).

Research/Clinical Keywords

HCN and TRP channels, neural excitation in healthy animals and animal models of human diseases (Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and epilepsy); olfactory bulb; cortex; local and centrifugal circuits; short-term plasticity; in vivo and in vitro neural electrophysiology; neuroanatomy with fiber photometry and multiphoton imaging
