Biosketch

Dr. Magesh Sundaram is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. At UM Capital Region Medical Center, Dr. Sundaram is the Medical Director of the Cancer Center and the Director of Surgical Oncology. He is board-certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery since 1997.

He received his medical degree at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland in 1990.  Dr. Sundaram completed his general surgery residency at Christiana Care in Delaware in 1995. He then completed an accredited Surgical Oncology fellowship at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in 1997. He is the recipient of several educational and career achievement awards. Dr. Sundaram has served in several leadership roles in surgical oncology and surgery within academic and community healthcare systems.

  • Dr. Sundaram was interviewed by WUSA9 Washington DC to present the new multidisciplinary cancer services offered in Prince Georges County in March 2025.
  • Dr. Sundaram presented the Dr. Joseph P. Ganey Visiting Professorship in Surgery lecture at the University of Maryland in September 2024.

Quality Health Care Experience

Dr. Sundaram is a national recognized leader in quality initiatives in cancer care and healthcare in the US. He has worked in various capacities with the Commission on Cancer (CoC), a professional consortium that emphasizes survival and quality of life for cancer patients. Dr. Sundaram has visited over 250 cancer centers across the US for the past fifteen years to serve as a cancer program accreditation expert, for the CoC. He continues to serve on the Quality Integration Committee and the Education Committee of the CoC.
