Rebecca Pfender, CNM completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in French language, spending part of her studies in Senegal, West Africa. She then moved to Philadelphia where she worked providing SIDS education to pregnant women. She returned to school for her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Masters of Science in Nursing degrees at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. She spent one semester of her midwifery education and clinical training in Auckland, New Zealand. Rebecca worked at a community hospital and federally qualified health center in West Virginia for 3 years prior to joining the faculty at the University of Maryland OB/GYN, midwifery division. She has a special interest in labor support and natural childbirth, breastfeeding/lactation support, global health, and alternative therapies.

Rebecca is part of the Midwifery Division of the Department of OB/GYN. She offers prenatal care and gynecologic care to women in the office setting. She also provides labor management and attends births on Labor and Delivery at UMMC, working closely with resident physicians and students.
