Biosketch

Dr. Lilly has been a faculty member of the University of Maryland School of Medicine since 1989, and he was the Director of Non-Invasive Vascular Diagnostic Lab at the University of Maryland Medical Center for ten years. He served as the Chief of Vascular Surgery at the Baltimore VA Medical Center from 1999 to 2004. Then, he was appointed the Chief of the Department of Surgery and the Director of the Vascular Center at Maryland General Hospital (now University of Maryland Medical Center Midtown Campus).

He has served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Surgical Research, the Journal of Vascular Surgery and the Journal of Vascular Ultrasound. 

Dr. Lilly has a long-standing interest in diagnostic vascular ultrasound practice, education, certification and accreditation. He serves as the Medical Director of the University of Maryland Baltimore County Vascular Sonography Training Program and has been active in national vascular sonography educational symposia. He was elected to the Board of Directors of the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission, the largest accreditation organization for vascular diagnostic facilities in the United States in 2016 and was Board Chair 2018-2020. Dr. Lilly also was elected to the Board of Directors of the American Registry of Diagnostic Sonography, now Inteleos, the largest sonography credentialing organization in the world in 2012 and is the current Board Chair.

Dr. Lilly's clinical interests are primarily in the surgical and percutaneous treatment of peripheral artery disease and in dialysis access. He became the representative of the Society for Vascular Surgery to the CMS Fistula First Breakthrough Initiative in 2004 and served as the served as the National Surgical Consultant to the program from 2009-2012.
