Dr. Jackson has over 25 years of experience in clinical laboratory and clinical informatics leadership. His research has focused on the effectiveness and the cost-effectiveness of diagnostic testing. More recently he has turned his attention to issues of ethics and accountability as they intersect both healthcare technology (including artificial intelligence) and healthcare business practices.
Following residency in clinical pathology, Dr. Jackson worked as a hospital-based medical informaticist and as a product manager for a Belgian medical software startup before returning to the US for a National Library of Medicine fellowship in medical informatics. He then joined the University of Utah Department of Pathology and ARUP Laboratories. He served in both medical director and business-facing roles at ARUP, including chief medical informatics officer, prior to joining the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
