Dr. Hanna is a leading expert in emergency and trauma radiology and serves as Professor and Dean John M. Dennis Chair of the Department of Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine. Dr. Hanna has served in multiple administrative leadership positions in academic medicine throughout his career. 

Dr. Hanna is focused on education, research, and development of best practices in the use and deployment of medical imaging in Emergency Departments. He is an experienced clinician and researcher who has co-authored more than 85 peer reviewed papers and 125 abstracts.

Dr. Hanna's core research interests include best practices in diagnostic modality choice and imaging technique in the Emergency Department (ED), ED imaging resource utilization, minimizing diagnostic error, the effects of shiftwork, and streamlining the emergency imaging timeline all with the goal of optimizing clinical care and patient outcomes.

Dr. Hanna is active in the American Society of Emergency Radiology, serving on the board directors and having organized and chaired the 2025 annual meeting. He is also active in the American College of Radiology, serving as Chair the Emergency Radiology Committee from 2025-2028.
