Biosketch
Dr. Katayoun "Katy" Eslami is a pediatric gastroenterologist at the University of Maryland Medical Center and an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. A lifelong member of the University of Maryland community, Dr. Eslami completed her medical, residency, and fellowship training within the University System of Maryland, reflecting her deep commitment to serving the patients and trainees of this institution.
Clinically, Dr. Eslami cares for children with a broad range of gastrointestinal and nutritional disorders including reflux, constipation, milk-soy protein allergy, inflammatory bowel disease, with a particular interest in obesity medicine including metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease. She is passionate about improving outcomes for children and families affected by gastrointestinal conditions through compassionate, evidence-based care and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Dr. Eslami is equally dedicated to medical education. During medical school, she served as Class President for four years, representing student voices in curriculum development and academic affairs. In fellowship, she designed and implemented an innovative, case-based Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition curriculum for pediatric residents, which significantly enhanced trainee competency and was recognized with the Department of Pediatrics’ Carol Carraccio Service Award for Teaching Excellence. Dr. Eslami has presented her educational research at national meetings including the Association of Pediatric Program Directors and the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition. Her scholarship focuses on curriculum development, learner engagement, and advancing competency-based education in pediatric subspecialty training.
Dr. Eslami is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, Gold Humanism Honor Society, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Gastroenterology, and NASPGHAN. She continues to mentor students and residents, integrating her clinical, teaching, and research interests to foster the next generation of pediatricians and pediatric subspecialists.
