Biosketch

Dr. Andreea A. Creanga is Professor and Chair of the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. A nationally and internationally recognized physician-scientist, she provides strategic leadership in advancing population health research, data science innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration across the School of Medicine and broader public health community.

Dr. Creanga’s scholarship centers on maternal, perinatal, and newborn health, with particular expertise in maternal mortality, severe maternal morbidity, and quality improvement in obstetrics. She has led large federally funded initiatives focused on strengthening maternal health surveillance systems, developing advanced risk and quality metrics, and translating data into policy and practice improvements at the state, national, and global levels.

Her work has informed maternal health policy, hospital quality collaboratives, and national surveillance strategies. She has served on state and national maternal mortality review committees and advises federal agencies and international organizations on maternal health measurement and health systems strengthening. Through her leadership, research, and mentorship, Dr. Creanga is committed to improving maternal health outcomes and reducing disparities across diverse populations.
