Dr. David Zapata is an attending adult cardiac surgeon at the University of Maryland Medical Center and at UM Capital Region Health. He treats the full range of heart disease including valvular, ischemic, and structural disease. His specialty is robotic and minimally-invasive valve reconstruction and hybrid coronary revascularization.

He received his medical degree from UT Health in San Antonio and then completed his residency and fellowship training in cardiothoracic surgery at Emory University. In his final year of training, he focused on robotic cardiac surgery and was selected to complete an additional robotic fellowship which he finished in 2022. 

He is a Louisiana native and enjoys cooking various cajun meals. He loves spending quality time with his wife and family. He is an avid baseball fan and loves spending time at the ballpark.
