A molecular geneticist by training, Dr. Huang now directs the science communications efforts of CARTI, helping helping early- to mid-career researchers improve how they convey the impact of their work. 

Dr. Huang has written for organizations including NIH, Carnegie Institution of Washington, Ontario Genomics Institute and the Pew-funded Genetics and Public Policy Center. She has led strategic marketing, communications, public affairs and media relations teams at UT Southwestern Medical Center and Johns Hopkins Medicine. Her award-winning teams at Johns Hopkins Medicine doubled institutional research news coverage, successfully executed two Nobel Prize announcements, and launched numerous initiatives that measurably expanded audience engagement. 

For 15 years, Dr. Huang taught grant writing for PhD candidates in the Johns Hopkins Cell, Molecular, Developmental Biology and Biophysics Graduate Program where many of her students successfully won NIH F31 awards. She has also given lectures in effective communications at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and at Janelia Research Campus of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. 

Dr. Huang's research experience spans developmental biology, molecular and cell biology, and genetics having studied molecular mechanisms involved in muscle cell development at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, mammalian embryonic development and imprinting at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, and chromosome structure and nuclear architecture at the Carnegie. 

She is passionate about mentoring students and staff, particularly those from underrepresented communities, and helping them launch their careers.
