The Division of Nephrology at the University of Maryland participates in ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service) and the Medical Specialties Match Program administered by the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP).

Instructions for completing and submitting the ERAS application can be found on the ERAS website. The following documents are particularly important in addition to other required documents:

  • Submit three letters of recommendation, including letters from your residency training director, research mentor (if applicable), and current employer (if you have completed residency training).
  • Submit a concise personal statement of your career goals in Nephrology, previous research background/training and possible research and academic interests (if applicable). If you are strongly motivated to pursue a research career in nephrology, please include it in your personal statement and describe your long-term academic goals.

Applicants may submit their fellowship applications via ERAS starting July 1. We will begin offering interviews after our initial review of applications in late August. We strongly encourage applicants to complete their applications (including letters of recommendation) by early August.

Our fellows have diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds, and we encourage applicants from all different walks of life to apply.

We will sponsor J-1 visas for qualified candidates. However, our program currently does not sponsor applicants with H-1B visas, or applicants from Non ACGME accredited Medicine Residencies.

To apply, please contact our Fellowship Coordinator, Cintia Crumedy, via the information above.
