Five Pillars
1. Patient Care
We are steadfast in our belief that everyone deserves access to comprehensive medical care that is delivered with the utmost compassion and professionalism. Our patient-centered approach focuses on all stages of a woman’s health throughout her lifetime as well as gynecologic care for our gender-affirming patients. 2. Education and Training
We are committed to providing exceptional education and training to a diverse student body. Encompassing didactic, clinical, and research-based education, we will be equipping our students with the knowledge, skills, and experience they need to improve healthcare outcomes for our patients within the State of Maryland and beyond. Our programs are designed to prepare our future healthcare professionals and medical researchers to become leaders in the field of gynecologic health (link to Department Programs).
3. Research
We are dedicated to advancing the field of women’s health and patient care by pursuing new and innovative knowledge through basic science, clinical, and translational studies. Through our focus on basic science research, we seek to gain a deeper understanding of the underlying mechanisms of disease and identify new treatment options. Our clinical research endeavors to translate these discoveries into practical applications that can be used to improve patient care. 4. Advocacy
As a department that centers around patients who are women and gender-affirming, we believe that gynecologic health is a fundamental right, accessible to all individuals without discrimination. We tirelessly advocate for equitable access to high-quality care, reproductive justice, and reduction of health disparities pertaining to our patients’ well-being to promote and support better care for all patients across Maryland and beyond. As part of our advocacy, we are committed to diversity, inclusion, and equity to strengthen a just and equitable environment for patients and our professional medical community. 5. Community Outreach
We actively engage with communities throughout Maryland to develop tangible projects to expand and enhance healthcare, providing a gateway to gynecologic health education and awareness while increasing their access to essential services. Working hand in hand with community members and organizations, we strive to improve the overall health and well-being of individuals and communities, ensuring that everyone has access to the care and resources necessary to thrive.
