2023-2024 Self Study and Survey Visit

The LCME requires that accredited education programs leading to the Doctor of Medicine degree must be reviewed every 8 years. The reviews are required to evaluate the compliance of the program with the accreditation requirements (Standards and Elements).

According to the LCME Guidelines for the Planning and Conduct of Accreditation Survey Visits (June 2023), MD programs seeking full accreditation must:

  1. Complete the data collection instrument (DCI), the independent student analysis (ISA), and compile other required supporting documentation (evidence of compliance)
  2. Create a self-study taskforce to analyze the DCI and other information sources (including the ISA survey report) and develop a self-study summary report which distills available information into the strengths and challenges of the MD program.
  3. Host an ad hoc survey team selected by the LCME Secretariat who is charged with verifying and clarifying the information provided by the School of Medicine, and to make some initial determinations about program performance and develop a survey report for review by the LCME.

Once the complete self-study (DCI, supporting documentation, and summary report) are reviewed by the LCME, a decision will be made regarding the reaccreditation of the program. The timeline below details the progression of the self-study process during this reaccreditation cycle for the MD program.
