Summary of the Research Project:

My research project focuses on using next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies and bioinformatics to study transmission dynamics and population genetics of Plasmodium spp. The goal is to improve our understanding of Plasmodium genomes, host-parasite interactions and malaria vaccine development. Specifically, research focuses on the central African country of Equatorial Guinea, but also utilizes publicly available data to achieve project objectives. Results from my project aim to improve our genomic processes to monitor important genes (such as hrp2, the antigen target for rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs)), characterize patterns of infection relatedness, and identify vaccine target antigens that elicit cross species protection.

About me:

I grew up in New Hampshire, but I am fortunate to have lived abroad in countries ranging from Argentina to Equatorial Guinea. Suffice it to say, I enjoy travelling. I love going for runs/walks/hikes in new locations, which, beyond being good exercise, allows me to escape the beaten path and explore. When I am not obsessing over malaria and infectious diseases in general, I love spending time with my dog, Mochi, who provides an endless supply of entertainment.
