Maternal and Child Health
An estimated 5 million children under the age of 5, including 2.3 million newborns, die each year. From its inception, the health of mothers and their children have been a consistent thread in all the work at CVD. Our dedicated faculty and staff are committed to understanding the nuances of immune responses in children and designing and conducting clinical trials for pediatric participants. The Center partners with two local pediatric clinics to conduct pediatric vaccine trials. Nearly every vaccine currently recommended for children in the US has been tested by our team. Additionally, our faculty collaborate seamlessly with researchers around the world to conduct large-scale clinical trials of vaccines to prevent diseases that disproportionately affect children in resource-limited settings. Findings from these studies drive local, national, and international policy and support evidence-based vaccination schedules.
