Emerging Pathogens and Pandemic Preparedness
We can’t predict when the next pandemic will strike, but we can prepare for when it does. Here at CVD, we are performing research to better understand transmission dynamics, immunity, and vector biology for many emerging and re-emerging threats. The Center explores which pathogens may cause the next pandemic and conducts basic science experiments to better understand emerging threats and build the tools necessary to prevent spread, including vaccine development. Additionally, our extensive breadth of experience with clinical trials means we remain posed to respond to emerging and pandemic pathogens, as demonstrated during the emergence of SARS-CoV-2 by delivering the first COVID-19 vaccination in the US. Our Center remains committed to responding to infectious diseases that threaten the US and communities around the world.
