Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME)

The Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) is the accrediting authority for medical education programs leading to the MD degree in the U.S. and Canada. The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) and the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association (AMA) are jointly represented on the LCME.
The Accreditation process consists of four components:
- Completion of the Data Collection Instrument (DCI)
- Student-led Independent Student Analysis (ISA)
- Faculty-led Institutional Self Study (ISS) using results of DCI and ISA
- Site visit by Faculty/Deans from other medical schools
The University of Maryland School of Medicine had its last site visit in 2016, resulting in full accreditation by the Liaison Committee of Medical Education, with the next full survey visit in the 2023-2024 academic year.
