Maha H. Haqqani, MD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Maryland Medical Center. She is a vascular surgeon with a special interest in limb salvage, vascular injuries, and comprehensive and ethical vascular care, particularly for underserved populations.

Dr. Haqqani earned her undergraduate degree in Chemistry and Biology from Johns Hopkins University and a Master of Health Science in Mental Health the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She received her medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, completed general surgery residency at Boston University Medical Center, and completed vascular surgery fellowship training at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and Columbia University Irving Medical Center.

Her research interests include vascular trauma, peripheral arterial disease, lower-extremity revascularization, and quality improvement in vascular care. She has published extensively on vascular injury management, and outcomes following interventions for peripheral arterial disease. Her work has been presented at national and international meetings for the Society for Vascular Surgery, Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Society, Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery, and American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Haqqani is committed to medical education and mentorship across all levels of training. She has taught medical students and surgical residents and successfully mentored trainees in their research projects from initial conception to successful publication in peer-reviewed journals. Her contributions to teaching, scholarship, and mentorship have been recognized with the Lester F. Williams Jr., MD Teaching Award for medical student teaching and the Grant V. Rodkey, MD Award from the VA Boston Health Care System during her residency training.
