I graduated from Seth GS Medical college, Mumbai India with honors. I then went on to complete my radiology residency from King Edward Memorial Hospital Mumbai India and was practicing as a radiologist. On my arrival in the US, I then went on to do my internal medicine residency at Medstar Harbor Hospital and my fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care at University of Maryland School of Medicine. I am board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine and critical care medicine. I have won teaching awards at my residency and also received the Lockard Conley award for teaching and mentoring from the American College of Physicians. I am actively involved with student, resident and fellow education. I have been serving as a small group leader for both ICM 1 and ICM II since 2008. In addition I am the codirector of the Pulmonary Unit for the second year medical students. I also run the pulmonary physiology course for the graduate students. I am the site director for University of Maryland for the summer and winter education blocks for the pulmonary and critical care fellows in the Baltimore, DC area.
From a clinical standpoint my focus on interest is in assessment of smoking related health and prevention of smoking related lung disease including COPD. I am in the process of setting up a smoking risk assessment and treatment clinic. In addition I am also interested in assessing patients for lung cancer screening and in follow up of lung nodules.

My areas of research interests are Lung cancer, and COPD. I am the director of the VA lung mass clinic. I have looked at the outcomes of COPD patients with early and late stage lung cancer and role of the pulmonologist in improving stage specific treatment and in overall survival. I am in the process of evaluating the outcomes of veterans who are seen in a dedicated lung mass clinic, in regards to time to diagnosis and treatment and overall survival. We are in the process of examining patient and system factors that delay care and help mitigate these. I am also interested in lung cancer screening and in helping further define the high risk populations for lung cancer by evaluating the genetic profiles in addition to the clinical characteristics. I am currently working with DR Mann in an NCI cooperative project of looking at genetic profiles of patients with lung nodules found on their screening CT for lung cancer. This will help differentiate those who are at higher risk for developing lung cancer.
