UMSOM Faculty Receives Prestigious Service Award from Physical Therapy Association

Roy Film, PT, MPT, DPTRoy Film, PT, MPT, DPT, Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences, will be receiving the American Physical Therapy Association’s (APTA) prestigious Lucy Blair Service Award. This is the Association’s highest recognition for sustained service to the profession and to the APTA. This distinction reflects his sustained national and state-level contributions across the profession, including service on multiple APTA committees in orthopedics and accreditation, as well as leadership roles within APTA Maryland, where he has served as both President and Vice President.

Dr. Film has represented Maryland in the APTA House of Delegates on 12 occasions and has contributed as an Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) examination item writer for the Specialty Academy of Content Experts within the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS). He has also served as a Lead Accreditation Specialist for the American Board of Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship Education (ABPTRFE). In addition, Dr. Film has advocated for the profession in legislative settings on Capitol Hill and in Annapolis over 20 times.

Other faculty who have received this award include Linda Horn,  PT, DScPT, MHS, Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences. Dr. Film will be formally recognized at the APTA Leadership Congress in Portland, Oregon, on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
