Biosketch

Mary J. Njoku, MD is currently Associate Professor and Vice Chair for Education in the Department of Anesthesiology, the recipient of the Matjasko Professorship in Anesthesiology in 2010 and the ACGME Designated Institutional Official for Graduate Medical Education for the University of Maryland Medical Center since 2012. She received a B.A. in Chemistry from the University of Dallas in Irving, Texas and M.D. from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. She completed her Residency in Internal Medicine at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore from 1985 to 1988 followed by Residency in Anesthesiology from 1988 to 1992 and Fellowship in Critical Care Medicine, both at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

Dr. Njoku joined the faculty of the University of Maryland School of Medicine in the Department of Anesthesiology in 1992, served as the Anesthesiology Residency Program Director from 1995 to 2014, the Program Director for the Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine Fellowship from 1997 to 2000, and attending physician in Critical Care from 1992 to 2011. She participates in the American Board of Anesthesiology Examinations as a Question Writer, Editor and Oral Examiner since 1998.

Dr. Njoku's interests are graduate medical education, training, curriculum development and evaluation. She has been a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society since 1985 and has received a number of acknowledgements and awards for teaching, advising and clinical care. She is as a member of the American Association of Medical College’s Group on Resident Affairs.
