Biosketch

Dr. Hood is a native of Baltimore. Before retiring from service with the United States Navy he served in various stations around the country and overseas including with submarine and diving commands.  His last assignment was as Chief of Cardiology at the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda Maryland.  He retired from active service in 2003 at the rank of Captain.

He joined the faculty at the University of Maryland in 2003.  Initially his focus was with clinical cardiac electrophysiology. Some years later he redirected his activities to general cardiology and echocardiography.

His current interests are centered on providing care to patients requiring general cardiovascular medicine, echocardiography and electrocardiography. These are also the core of his teaching efforts for which he has received multiple Gary D. Plotnick MD Teacher of the Year awards.

He sees outpatients in the Cardiology Ambulatory Center at Faculty Practice site on Redwood Street in downtown Baltimore.
