Yes. Group entries are allowed. Only one prize will be awarded per winning video.

Absolutely. Technical polish is less important than storytelling.

Dean Mark T. Gladwin at the University of Maryland School of Medicine invites all current residents, fellows, and UMSOM students to participate in the 2026 MD Reel. We want to highlight the authentic experiences of our students and residents—what makes living in Baltimore special, and what you value most about your residency training and education.
Submit a short video, under two minutes, for one or both of the following categories:
- Why I love being at the University of Maryland
- Why I love living in Baltimore
for a chance to win Gold ($1K), Silver ($750), Bronze ($250) prizes.
Contest Categories

2. What I love about Baltimore
Showcase what you enjoy about living in Baltimore—neighborhoods, food, culture, outdoor activities, community, or anything that makes the city meaningful to you.
Participants may submit a maximum of two total submissions.
Prizes
- Gold ($1K), Silver ($750), Bronze ($250)

How to Enter
Submission Requirements
- Videos must be 2 minutes or less (total runtime including title cards).
- Videos must be submitted in MP4, MOV, or AVI format.
- Videos must contain closed captions and audio descriptions.
- Maximum file size: 500 MB.
- Submissions must be uploaded using the contest submission portal (link here).
- All videos must comply with University of Maryland privacy, professionalism, and copyright policies.
Eligibility
To participate, you must:
- Be a current resident, fellow, or UMSOM student training at the University of Maryland at the time of entry.
- Submit original content created by you (group submissions allowed; only one prize awarded per winning entry).
- Agree to the contest rules and release form at submission.
The contest is not open to staff physicians, or non‑University of Maryland trainees.
Judging Criteria
Videos will be reviewed by a selection panel and scored on:
- Creativity & Originality – unique perspective, engaging storytelling
- Relevance to Theme – clearly reflects Baltimore life or the residency experience
- Emotional/Inspirational Impact – authenticity, resonance, viewer engagement
- Technical Quality – clarity of audio, image quality, pacing (professionality not required)
- Overall Message – positivity, accuracy, and alignment with University of Maryland values
Judges’ decisions are final.
Content & Conduct Requirements
To ensure safety, compliance, and professionalism:
Your video must NOT contain:
- Protected Health Information (PHI) or identifiable patients
- Footage recorded in patient-care areas without explicit written authorization
- Copyrighted music, images, or video unless you have legal rights to use them
- Offensive, discriminatory, defamatory, or inappropriate content
- Unapproved logos, trademarks, or branding from external organizations
- Drone footage taken illegally or without permits
The University of Maryland reserves the right to disqualify any entry that violates these rules.
