Biosketch

Dr. Semelrath has been with the University of Maryland School of Medicine Department of Emergency Medicine since 2019.  Prior to joining the faculty, he served in the United States Air Force for 14 years. While in the service, he was stationed at Joint Base San Antonio, where is was core faculty for the DoD's largest combined EM residency program, and served as an interim APD there. He deployed twice as a Critical Care Air Transport Team physician in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, to both Afghanistan and Germany. He was stationed next at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, where he served as the EM Clerkship Director, as well as the Course Director for Operation Bushmaster- a live simulated field deployment for 4th year medical students that is known throughout the Department of Defense.

After leaving the service, he joined the UMSOM group where he works clinically at the Baltimore VA Medical Center. He serves as the GME site director for the rotating EM residents. He has developed a keen interest in LGBTQIA+ health and health disparities, especially as it relates to emergency department care, as well as resident wellness and education
