Dr Salerno is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Her long-term goal is to develop a career as an educator and physician-scientist focusing on point-of-care ultrasound in the emergency department. After medical school, she entered an Emergency Medicine residency and was drawn to the fast-paced environment and spectrum of diverse pathophysiology.  During this time, she realized the importance of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) in the diagnosis and management of patients in the emergency department. After residency, she pursued an Emergency Ultrasound fellowship at the University of Maryland. After completion she has worked to improve the emergency ultrasound training locally at the University of Maryland as well as nationally. Currently, she is the Director of the Emergency Ultrasound Division and the Advanced Emergency Medicine Ultrasonography Fellowship Director.
