Dr. Gutierrez received his undergraduate from Saint Louis University and medical degree from Ponce Health Sciences University. He completed his Neurology training and Clinical Neurophysiology/Epilepsy training at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital where he was chief resident and received multiple teaching awards.  He was an Associate Professor of Neurology, Epilepsy Division Chief and Residency Program Director at Temple University prior to joining the faculty at the University of Maryland, School of Medicine in September 2017. His research focuses in health disparities in epilepsy, education, EEG and epilepsy surgery.
