Derik L. Davis, M.D. is an Associate Professor in the Department of Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, located on the campus of University of Maryland, Baltimore. Dr. Davis is a board-certified diagnostic radiologist who specializes in musculoskeletal imaging for several hospitals and outpatient facilities within the University of Maryland Medical System. His current clinical practice includes diagnostic imaging for musculoskeletal trauma, sports medicine, bone and soft tissue disorders, osteoporosis, musculoskeletal tumors, and arthritis. Dr. Davis also provides direct patient care for image-guided joint procedures, tumor biopsy, and musculoskeletal ultrasound.

Dr. Davis has primary clinical research interests focusing  on (1) the relationship of imaging measures of skeletal muscle quality with aging-related functional outcomes, and (2) the association of shoulder dysfunction with declines in mobility, physical function, and health-related quality of life in older populations. Dr. Davis also has additional clinical research interests pertaining to musculoskeletal imaging, musculoskeletal trauma, sports medicine, and musculoskeletal tumors. He is affiliated with the University of Maryland Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center and the University of Maryland Center for Research on Aging.

Dr. Davis is an active participant in programs for medical student, resident, and fellow education. He is the Course Director of the Musculoskeletal Radiology Elective for third and fourth year medical students, and he serves also as a faculty member for a second year medical student course. He is a member of his department’s Medical Student Education Committee and serves as the Director for both the Musculoskeletal Radiology and MRI Fellowship Programs.

Dr. Davis is the author or co-authored for over 90 peer-reviewed publications and proffered abstracts, and he is also the author of 13 book chapters. He serves as a reviewer for several journals and the American Roentgen Ray Society Scientific Program Subcommittee-Musculoskeletal Section.  Dr. Davis is member of the Editorial Board for the American Journal of Sports Medicine, a premiere journal in the fields of orthopaedics and sports medicine. Dr. Davis is an expert in the field of musculoskeletal radiology, and he is a member of leading societies in the field, including the International Skeletal Society, the Society of Academic Bone Radiologists, and the Society of Skeletal Radiology. He is also a member of the Gerontological Society of America and a former National Institute on Aging Butler-Williams Scholar.
