Elizabeth Kartal, CNM is dedicated to serving women, improving knowledge of their own bodies, and health diagnoses, and how to use that information to improve the quality of their lives. She served as a Peace Corps Volunteer from 2007-2009 in both Zambia and Lesotho. She taught HIV prevention and designed an anti-stigma program that she taught in rural Lesotho. She then pursued her career in nursing and attended Johns Hopkins University. She worked in the Emergency Department at Bon Secours Hospital in west Baltimore. She also worked as an elementary school nurse. She went on to get her Master's in Midwifery from Georgetown University. She worked in Haiti and Uganda, both providing support to the local midwife training, and hands on care to patients. She worked as a midwife on the Eastern Shore before returning to Baltimore. She is excited to be a part of the University of Maryland community. Her other certifications include Reiki and yoga, and has been teaching yoga for > 20 years. Her focus is natural birth without fear, stress reduction, birth control counseling and initiation, wellness, yoga, and global health.
