Dr. Saleeb attended medical school at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas then completed his residency in internal medicine at Georgetown University Hospital. Before training in infectious diseases at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), he was a volunteer physician in Nairobi, Kenya and the Nuba Mountains, Sudan. At the NIH his research included developing and testing a protocol for rapid identification of mycobacteria using matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS). He also conducted research in Mali on the microscopic-observation drug-susceptibility (MODS) assay for diagnosis and drug susceptibility testing of tuberculosis.
Dr. Saleeb joined the Institute of Human Virology (IHV) in 2012. He has provided clinical and technical support for IHV's PEPFAR-funded activities in Kenya and Tanzania, and he served as the resident faculty director in Botswana from 2015-17. In addition to clinical service at the University of Maryland Medical Center, he currently provides consultative support for the Maryland Department of Health Center for TB Control and Prevention.
