Biosketch

Dr. Snehal T. Patel received his medical degree from New Jersey Medical School and completed his internship and residency training in General Pediatrics at Duke Children’s Hospital and Health Center.  After completing his residency training, he served as a general pediatrician in a community hospital in Salinas, CA and an outpatient clinic at the Naval Medical Center San Diego.  He then pursued a Masters in Health Finance and Management degree at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and, for several years, advised commercial life sciences and federal government clients as a healthcare consultant at Navigant Consulting, Covance Market Access Services, and Booz Allen Hamilton. 

In 2011, Dr. Patel transitioned back to clinical medicine to support a new pediatric hospitalist program and military medical student and house-staff education and training at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA.  He joined the faculty of the University of Maryland School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor in 2019 to staff the Division of Pediatric Hospitalist Medicine’s Pediatric Intermediate Care Unit.  Dr. Patel currently serves as an inpatient attending for the Pediatric Hospitalist Service and supports a wide range of inpatient education, training, QI, and research activities, including serving as a co-lead for the hospital’s AAP REVISE II QI initiative as well as supporting an inpatient resident-led COVID/Influenza vaccine hesitancy parent survey and a resident-led asthma SMART therapy education and CPG compliance effort. In addition, he is leading education and advocacy efforts related to Environmental Justice and Climate Change and Health, including serving as the faculty lead for incorporating climate and health education in the SOM preclinical curriculum and working with faculty across UMB and UMCP on an interprofessional educational initiative focused on climate change and health equity in Maryland.
