Application Requirements

All applications must be received through Residency Centralized Application Service (ResidencyCAS). The following minimum requirements must be met before your application will be reviewed:

    • ERAS Common Application
    • Minimum of 2 SLOEs
    • USMLE Transcript or COMLEX Transcript for categorical or combined EM applicants.

        • We do not have a minimum score. At this time, Step 2 is recommended but not required.
    • Personal Statement
    • Medical School Transcript
    • Medical School Performance Evaluation (MSPE)
    • ECFMG Certificate (if applicable)

Application Review Process

Applications are reviewed on a holistic basis by our selection committee.  During the process of reviewing ERAS applications, we blind sex, self-identification, and photos to limit unconscious bias. We simply look for applicants who fit with the mission and values of UMEM.

Interview Process for Combined EM/IM Program Applicants

Combined Emergency Medicine/Internal Medicine applicants will interview on a single day with the EM/IM program faculty. After interviewing for the combined program, you may also rank our categorical EM program separately.

If you have been granted an interview for one of the combined programs, you will be automatically considered for our categorical program. You do not need to schedule an additional interview, and can rank BOTH programs if you wish.

Interview Process for Combined EM/Peds Program Applicants

Combined Emergency Medicine/Pediatrics applicants will interview on a single day with the EM/Peds program faculty. After interviewing for the combined program, you may also rank our categorical EM program separately.

If you have been granted an interview for one of the combined programs, you will be automatically considered for our categorical program. You do not need to schedule an additional interview, and can rank BOTH programs if you wish.

A Note on International Medical School Graduates

We welcome applications from graduates of medical schools outside the United States. In addition to meeting all other application requirements, international medical school graduates must also be certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).

While J1 visas may be sponsored by our institution on a case-by-case basis, our program prefers not to sponsor visas. Preference given to those that have completed a transitional year of clinical experience in the United States.
