Dr. Earl J. Reisdorff Honored with the Outstanding Leadership in Emergency Medicine Award

The Department of Emergency Medicine Residency Program was honored to welcome Dr. Earl J. Reisdorff as the visiting speaker for this year's Brian J. Browne Leadership Lecture on September 30.

A nationally recognized leader in emergency medicine, medical education, and healthcare administration, Dr. Reisdorff delivered two engaging presentations during the department's weekly conference:

  • 10 Things I Learned as an Emergency Physician
  • Career Concepts: Building a Brighter Future

Drawing from an extraordinary career spanning clinical practice, medical education, and national leadership, Dr. Reisdorff shared personal insights and practical lessons that resonated with learners, faculty, and staff alike. His presentations offered thoughtful perspectives on professional growth, leadership, mentorship, and the future of emergency medicine.

In recognition of his remarkable contributions to the specialty, the residency program proudly presented Dr. Reisdorff with the Outstanding Leadership in Emergency Medicine Award following his lectures.

Dr. Reisdorff served as Executive Director of the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) from 2010 to 2024 and has held numerous leadership roles throughout his distinguished career, including residency program director, designated institutional official, and leader of a multi-specialty medical education consortium. He has authored textbooks and numerous peer-reviewed publications, presented more than 400 scientific and educational lectures, and received many of emergency medicine's highest honors. Among these recognitions are the Judith E. Tintinalli Award for Outstanding Contribution in Education from the American College of Emergency Physicians and the James D. Mills Outstanding Contribution to Emergency Medicine Award.

Beyond medicine, Dr. Reisdorff is also an accomplished jazz pianist, theatre organist, and published composer whose works have been performed by orchestras and ensembles across the country.

The Department of Emergency Medicine is grateful to Dr. Reisdorff for sharing his expertise, wisdom, and passion for education. His visit served as a powerful reminder of the importance of leadership, mentorship, and lifelong learning in advancing our specialty.

Congratulations to Dr. Earl Reisdorff on receiving the Outstanding Leadership in Emergency Medicine Award, and thank you for an inspiring day of learning and reflection.
