Dr. Powell Leads new Center for Combat Casualty Care
In July, Associate Professor Elizabeth Powell, MD, spoke with the Baltimore Business Journal about the Center for Combat Casualty Care—a joint initiative between the University of Maryland, Baltimore and the University of Maryland Medical Center's R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center.
Focused on research to expand and enhance emergency care and triage in modern day warfare, the Center, which is partially funded by a $1 million grant from the Maryland Department of Commerce, will feature lab space, office space, and a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (also known as a SCIF).
Dr. Powell serves as the Center's first lead. In addition to her dual appointment to the Departments of Emergency Medicine and Surgery, Dr. Powell also serves as a major in the U.S. Air Force Reserve.
