The Department is pleased to share that on July 1, 2026, the University of Maryland School of Medicine promoted Leen Alblaihed, MBBS, MHA, to the rank of Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine as a clinician-educator.

After earning her bachelor of medicine, bachelor of surgery (MBBS) from King Saud University, Dr. Alblaihed completed an initial residency at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre in Riyadh. For five years, Dr. Alblaihed served as an emergency medicine physician and healthcare quality specialist at King Faisal before she made the decision to move to Baltimore.

After receiving a Master of Health Administration at Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Alblaihed completed both a year-long administrative residency and postdoctoral safety and quality fellowship at Johns Hopkins. In 2013, Dr. Alblaihed found her home at the University of Maryland School of Medicine—first as a research scholar, and then, in 2014, as a resident with our department, where we quickly recognized her robust experience and expertise. After serving as Chief Resident and completing an emergency medicine ultrasound fellowship, Dr. Alblaihed served as the Director of Residency Education at Upper Chesapeake within the Maryland Emergency Medicine Network. Since 2021, Dr. Alblaihed has served as a full-time Assistant Professor, where she has developed a wonderful reputation as a skilled clinician, engaging teacher, and trusted mentor.

While Dr. Alblaihed excels at the bedside, her surpassing talents lie in the classroom. Dr. Alblaihed is one of the most engaging and effective teachers in our department. Since 2014, she has served as an instructor, teacher, and preceptor for a range of medical school courses, including point of care ultrasound, pathophysiology and therapeutics, clinical toxicology, and patient safety and quality, to name a few.

Dr. Alblaihed is a consummate physician and educator. Quite simply, the caliber of her clinical care and teaching is exemplary. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Alblaihed on her promotion.
